During Africa Health ExCon 2026 Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority Meets Pharma Group Leaders to Discuss Advancing the Pharmaceutical Ecosystem and Enhancing the Sustainability of Egypt’s Pharmaceutical Market
Al-Ghamrawy: Continuous Dialogue with Industry Partners Supports the Development of the Pharmaceutical Sector and Enhances the Availability of Safe and Effective Pharmaceutical Products
Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, welcomed a delegation from the Egyptian Pharmaceutical Research and Development Organization (Pharma Group), headed by Dr. Hazem Abdel Samea, Chairman of the Organization and Managing Director of MSD Egypt. The meeting was attended by Dr. Sami Khalil, Treasurer of the Organization; Dr. Jehan El Murr, Country President of Novartis Egypt; and Dr. Amr Seif, Regional President of Pfizer for Egypt, the Levant, and Iraq.
Dr. Al-Ghamrawy reaffirmed the Egyptian Drug Authority’s commitment to maintaining constructive dialogue with industry partners and representatives of multinational pharmaceutical companies operating in the Egyptian market. He emphasized that continuous cooperation and coordination between regulatory authorities and the pharmaceutical industry constitute a fundamental pillar for strengthening pharmaceutical security and supporting the state’s efforts to advance the healthcare sector and achieve self-sufficiency in strategic and vital pharmaceutical products.
He further noted that the Authority remains committed to supporting initiatives that contribute to enhancing the availability of pharmaceutical products while maintaining a balance between investment requirements and the sustainability of the pharmaceutical industry on the one hand, and ensuring patient access to safe, effective, and high-quality pharmaceutical products on the other. These efforts align with Egypt’s vision for developing the pharmaceutical sector and strengthening its competitiveness at both the regional and international levels.
For their part, members of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Pharmaceutical Research and Development Organization (Pharma Group) expressed their appreciation for the role played by the Egyptian Drug Authority in advancing the pharmaceutical ecosystem and modernizing regulatory and oversight frameworks. They reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation with the Authority in support of development efforts and enhancing the competitiveness of Egypt’s
pharmaceutical industry, thereby contributing to a more attractive investment environment that fosters innovation and growth.
The meeting included discussions on a number of strategic priority issues for the pharmaceutical sector, particularly ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the Egyptian Drug Authority and Pharma Group. The participants also exchanged views on the current challenges and opportunities facing the pharmaceutical sector, with the aim of supporting the sustainability of Egypt’s pharmaceutical market, enhancing the investment climate, and stimulating growth and development.
The meeting further addressed the current status of the pharmaceutical track-and-trace project, in addition to reviewing several regulatory and technical topics of mutual interest. These discussions contribute to the advancement of the pharmaceutical ecosystem, the enhancement of efficiency, quality, and transparency, and the strengthening of the Egyptian market’s ability to adapt to global developments and achieve sustainable growth.
